Does GPA really matter?

Yesterday, my University announced the results for Business Administration block and since my dad was using the PC at that time so i had to log in via my phone (All Hail WI-FI). Although like every one else, from the moment you log in to the students server to the point where you click the "Exam Result" icon, your heart beat automatically increases and just when the result page is loading it looks as if the heart is going to pop out of your body and thankfully it doesn't happen.

Alhamdulillah i scored a B+ with just 1 mark short of an A grade and most importantly my target for improving my C-GPA is also achieved and currently it stands at 2.6 (if i remove the F's i got and the fact that i retook the course to improve my grade). Previously it was a tad under the required 2.5 mark for the degree. Now this is no doubt a proud moment for any one that manages to get over the line just in time to attend the next year's convocation but I really have a question in mind.

"Does this really matter at the end of the day?"

My childhood mate who is at the moment on top of his game, scoring at least 2 A's every semester just completed his Hat-trick of 3 A's in this particular semester and has a C-GPA of around 3.5 approximately. After telling him my position he asked me that why was it that i have struggled to even meet the benchmark of the required GPA for the degree, although we gave it our best shot in trying to score good grades, he has done extremely well and I on the other hand have as usual messed it up (sort of) just like i normally do. Let me make it crystal clear that there is "NO WAY" that i am jealous of any one that scores A's and a 3+ GPA, in fact I feel proud if any one achieves excellence. But the thing is that is it necessary for people like me to be accountable for low grades? Is it necessary that we are questioned for not being able to score A's? Is it necessary for us to be criticized by others and looked down upon as failures, just because of a damn alphabet?

Whereas we all know that all those who score big-time are not necessarily genius minds. I mean, there are high scorers that eventually go on to do big in life but let's face the facts. Whereas those who end up being dropouts even, somehow, someway end up being entrepreneurs, successful businessmen or whatever the choose to do. One feels that if there are these limitations put on the students then instead of developing their potential, it puts pressure on them so that they have to work their butt off to score high grades. Since we in Pakistan are suffering from brain drain and we are also in a need to revamp the education system, it is only fitting that people realize that it is not about scoring the top two alphabets (if you know what i mean) it is about exploring that wonderful mind that has been given the potential to explore numerous possibilities that one can even think of, although there is a limit to this but its enough in this life at least.

We as graduating students have been through a lot and there is more to look forward to. After all, University life is a platform where we are taught different skills and given opportunities to express ourselves. And we do our best to make the most of the time we spend there. But as far as grading and judging a person on such basis is concerned, let's just say that glory is not meant for everybody. Those who attain it, should make the best of it and those who don't, will always get up and fight till the last breath and that is where the difference between those who take everything for granted and those who fight for the best (no matter what others say) comes in.

My best wishes to all the students out there who have passed out of school, college or universities. Let's remind ourselves of the fact that we are more talented in our own way and we don't even know it. Alphabets don't matter, it is who we are that matters and who are we? Well, simply put and to be honest, "We have no idea who we are" (if you get what i mean).
