Everlasting Food Fetish

Well it appears that my Thursdays are going to be Wacky ones, don’t mean to greatly exaggerate but let’s just say that it’s going to be great to learn something new apart from studies and stuff. To be honest it’s no biggie for me taking a course that I have already done 2 years ago, but just to improve my grade have I taken it up again. And rightly so because when you get a teacher who is fun, I really enjoy a weekly session with him.

Apart from the regular lecture stuff, we got into a situation where Mr. Ali Saeed (our teacher) asked us that why do we eat a lot at gatherings (weddings) and why we are so lazy at home (and choosy too). At weddings we are so eagerly waiting for the dinner to be served so that we can all Dog-pile on it and pick up whatever comes in our hands. On every wedding it’s usually the Chicken Biryani that becomes the Bait for all, and the leg-piece is the 1st thing that everybody wants, the rice comes later.

Once we go back home and assuming that our sibling has ordered a Pizza and offers us a bite, do we take it or do we shy away from it (remember that we have just lost our appetite a while ago) do we consider giving our loss of appetite a  second thought? I believe the answer is not yes, in fact its (As Stone Cold Steve Austin would say) “If you think that you still got room for one more, then gimme a HELL YEAH!!!”.

The real deal is that why are we so hungry all the time irrespective of the whole hygienic factor and stuff? Why cant we just control our hunger and why do we try to beat others to get first hand on the dish?  We were told by our teacher to ask our parents and figure out that all the luxurious food that we see around us, (even our cooking shows dig into it) we should ask our parents that how many times did they get to eat this kind of food. Now we all know that how times were back in the old days and most of our ancestors did not even sleep on a bed of roses. Not only our parents but what about our grand parents, how many times did they get to eat, say, Biryani in a month. The answer lies in our heads, just scratch it a bit people :)

Although it is a known fact when we are born, out of a 100% we are definitely 90% our parents, out of this 90% we are more like our father or mother or an equal blend of both. The remaining 10% are “We, Ourselves, and Us”. So clearly there is no denying the fact that whoever we are, it’s the genetics that makes us up. Connecting the lack of proper (read : luxurious) food that our ancestors did not have (keep in mind that they lived during the British Rule and they even sacrificed everything they had during 1947 partition of Subcontinent) that hunger, that desire, that wish is in our veins.

You may want to do a little research on this whole thing but the fact of the matter is this that the desire for having a high standard food, that deliciously cooked Leg-Piece, is inside of us and is not going anywhere at all. We will keep wanting more and more because quite frankly Ladies and Gentlemen, “This Is Us”. Going back to that scenario where we are offered a Pizza bite, if there were a British or an American, he may have excused himself by saying that he is already full and there is no room for another. Whereas we will accommodate that piece of Pizza without and second thoughts. The example says it all.

In a nutshell, its not that our grand parents could not even dream about having a “Chicken Biryani” “Chicken Pizza”, “Espresso Coffee” or a “Nescafe” etc. The thing is this that now we do know what is the whole scene, why can’t we take this matter into our own hands and at least get a grip on our will power, not to stop eating but to control our over-eating habits and importantly, eating like we have never eaten before and never will. Trust In God Almighty, for He is the one that will arrange food for us whenever we express our desire, and its not only for us, its more the Millions at a time, as God says in the Quran;

"And the earth We have spread out (like a carpet); set thereon mountains firm and immovable; and produced therein all kinds of things in due balance. And We have provided therein means of subsistence, for you and for those for whose sustenance you are not responsible." [Hijr 15:19-20]

Peace out Peeps.
